My family were refugees from the war in Bosnia. After my early years in Germany, we made Australia home in 2000, when I was seven, and I started school in a new country and a new language. It was the classroom that slowly helped me find my feet. Education didn't just teach me; it gave me a future, and I've believed in its quiet power ever since.
I loved school, but I also know how unkind it can be. As a quiet, introverted child I'd silently rehearse before it was ever my turn to read aloud. So when a child is anxious, or hiding, or certain they're "not good at this," I understand it from the inside, and it shapes how gently I meet them.
I came to teaching the long way, starting in Criminal Justice before finding my way into a Bachelor of Education, where everything finally clicked. I graduated in 2016 and taught mainly in Melbourne, with experience spanning P–12. Since then I've tutored students all over the world and supported trainee teachers studying through an online university. When COVID slowed everything down, it gave me an honest moment of clarity: teaching had quietly become about ticking off abilities more than truly teaching. Going online handed back the part I love most, building confidence one learner at a time.
Across my career I've spent ten years supporting children with additional needs, helping with emotional regulation and the steady routines that let a child feel safe enough to learn. My approach is holistic: every child longs to be seen for who they are, whether they're wild about reptiles, dirt bikes or dancing, and those passions are exactly what we weave their learning around.
Happy children thrive.
Above all, what matters most is connection, with you and with your child, because that's what lets a child feel safe enough to thrive. Sometimes it means rethinking what "learning" even means: children are learning in every moment, in the simplest of tasks. Learning can be joyful, and I want homeschooling to feel like a shared adventure for the whole family, not a task for the child alone. Social and emotional growth matters every bit as much as anything in a workbook.
I think often of my two younger sisters: one who struggled to make friends, and one labelled "naughty" for simply not being able to sit still, who left school in Year 10. Neither needed fixing; they needed a system built for the way they learn. That's why I believe children thrive in a safe, supportive space at home, with the one-to-one care no crowded classroom can match. In 2024 I moved to Bali to work with homeschooling families across Australia online, and now it's personal in a new way: I'm mum to a little girl I'll homeschool myself. So everything I share with you, I'm living right alongside you.
That's why, for so many families, the feeling isn't failure. It's relief. You're not behind. Your child isn't a problem to fix. You simply get to build learning that finally fits them.
